Kathleen Luong

Kathleen Luong (1974-2020) also known as Katie Luong, was a beautiful Vietnamese-American film and television actress and  fashion model.

Born on January 7, 1975 in Saigon, South Vietnam, Kathleen Luong and her family left their native homeland when she was just 4 years old by boat to Malaysia.  After months spent at a Malaysian refugee camp, they relocated to New York City.  Due to her good looks, Kathleen Luong began modeling during her teenage years.  An acting career would follow shortly follow thereafter with guest appearances on such American television shows like Baywatch, Players, The Magnificent Seven, JAG and Threat Matrix.  She made her feature film debut with a small part in Two Days in a Valley (1995) starring Teri Hatcher and Jeff Daniels.  In 2000, Kathleen Luong portrayed the love interest of the main character in the film, Hunger, starring the father-and-son acting team of Robert and Joseph Culp.  Among her other film acting credits include Green Dragon (2001) starring Patrick Swayze, Forest Whitaker, Don Duong, Hiep Thi Le and Kieu Chinh, Missing Brendan (2003) starring Robin Thomas and Illeana Douglas and her very last film, In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007) starring Scoot McNairy and Sara Simmonds.

In 2003, Kathleen Luong starred in Buoi Sang Dau Nam (First Morning), her very first Vietnamese feature film.  Directed by Victor Vu, the film's cast also included Catherine Ai, Long Nguyen and Vietnamese heartthrob Johnny Tri Nguyen.  The following year, Kathleen Luong worked again with director Victor Vu in her second Vietnamese feature film, Oan Hon (Spirits) starring Catherine Ai, Tuan Cuong and Kathy Uyen.  

In the late 2000s, Kathleen Luong decided to leave the film industry and lived quietly in Orange County, California.  She opened a small sandwich shop called Katie's Muchies in the city of Westninster that catered mostly to local high school students.  Kathleen Luong died on November 28, 2020 after a long battle with cancer.  She was 45 years old.
