Jimmii JC Nguyen

Jimmii JC Nguyễn (1970-    ) also often credited as Jimmii Nguyễn, is a Vietnamese-American singer, songwriter and musician.

Born as Nguyễn Thanh Dũng Ngọc Long on November 1, 1970 in Saigon, South Vietnam, he grew up in with 4 other siblings.  At the age of 10, he and his father left Vietnam to resettle in San Francisco, California.  After graduating from college, Jimmii JC Nguyen attended Golden Gate University of Law in San Francisco.  In 1992, he and his father were reunited with his mother and 4 siblings from Vietnam with their arrival to the United States.

At the age of 22, he was engaged to his first love who was a fellow Vietnamese-American originally from Hanoi.  Just months prior to their planned wedding date, his fiancee was abducted and murdered in what has been assumed to be a gang-related crime.  This would be followed by another tragedy for Jimmii JC Nguyen the following year when his youngest sister was killed in an automobile accident on Independence Day. Within a year as a young man, Jimmii JC Nguyen experienced two of the greatest losses in his life and fell into a deep depression.  After months of treatment at a psychiatric ward for his depression, he began to write and record songs for his debut solo studio album inspired by the pair of recent tragedies in his life.

Still a virtual unknown in the Vietnamese-American music industry, Jimmii JC Nguyen took a gamble and decided to release his debut album, Mãi Mãi Bên Em, under his own label, JC Records, in 1993.  After months of shopping around for a distribution label, he settled with Giang Ngoc, one of the most reputable overseas Vietnamese music production labels at the time.  In the fall of 1993, he was the featured guest interviewed by Viet Dzung on his daily radio talk show, Tâm Tình Với Nghệ Sĩ, for Little Saigon Radio which aired in all 3 major regions populated with Vietnamese-Americans:  Southern California, San Jose and Houston.  Jimmii JC Nguyen, a young man who had been raised mostly in the United States, managed to overwhelm and amaze Little Saigon Radio's listening audience with his eloquent Vietnamese.  His tragic story of losing both his fiancee and youngest sister which had inspired him to write the title track of his debut album touched the hearts of many.  For the next several months, Mãi Mãi Bên Em would become of the most requested songs called in by audience members for airplay on Little Saigon Radio.  Following the release of his debut album, a beautiful music video was made for the title track which would also be given heavy rotation on Little Saigon Television and various other Vietnamese-language television shows.  Sales for his debut album went through the roof and turned Jimmii JC Nguyen into a star.

Through the years, Jimmii JC Nguyen has released many other solo studio albums with material originally written and recorded by himself such as Người Con Gái (1994), Một Hình Dung (1995), Tình Như Lá Bay Xa (1996), Hỏi Đá Buồn Không (1996), Vĩnh Biệt Màu Xanh (1998), Tưởng Đã Phôi Pha (2000), Còn Đây Nỗi Nhớ (2001) and a compilation album, Best Hits of Jimmii Nguyễn (2002). He has also worked with various other labels such as Calvin Music Entertainment and Tình Productions. Jimmii JC Nguyen has written and composed over 70 songs in both Vietnamese and English.

In 1997, Jimmii JC Nguyen went on his first concert tour of Vietnam.  Since then, he has made many return trips to his native homeland which is where he also currently spends most of his time.  In 2003, he formed the group, Jimmii Band, with 4 other musicians in Vietnam.  Jimmii JC Nguyen is in a long term relationship with singer Ngọc Phạm.  Together, the two are parents of one child.
