Lam Thuy Van

Lam Thuy Van (....-      ) is a Vietnamese-American singer who had initially gained prominence with her audio recordings and music video appearances for Asia Productions in the early 1990s.  She is best known for her sweet, angelic singing voice and striking beauty.

Born on July 17, .... to a Chinese-Vietnamese mother and a Pakistani father in Vietnam, Lam Thuy Van's given birth name is Zarina Pohlel.  At the age of three, Lam Thuy Van and her family left for the United States to resettle in Atlanta, Georgia.  She moved to Southern California at the age of 21 and began singing professionally at Au Baccara Nightclub in Orange County through an introduction from her uncle, singer Jo Marcel.  During her tenure as a regular weekly performer at Au Baccara with the accompanying band, Chi Tai Brothers, Lam Thuy Van would be approached by Truc Ho of Asia Productions with an exclusive recording contract offer.

After signing with Asia Productions, Lam Thuy Van's career immediately took off shortly thereafter.  From her very first recording, a song written by Truc Ho, Con Mua Ha, Lam Thuy Van was able to captivate audiences with her silky, smooth voice and gentle style of singing.   At the beginning of her recording career, her voice was often compared to that of her idol, Ngoc Lan.  Lam Thuy Van has since developed a very distinct sound of her own and has acquired for herself a large following of Vietnamese fans all over the world.

Among Lam Thuy Van's most popular recorded songs include Tinh Yeu va Tuoi Tre, Khi Co Chang (Je Ne Suis Que De L'amour) and Ngay Vui Nam Ay (Magic Boulevard), a duet she had recorded together with Don Ho.  In addition, she has made several memorable appearances on video for Asia Productions of duets recorded with Lam Nhat Tien.  Lam Thuy Van continues to mesmerize audiences with her music video appearances for Asia Productions and live concerts for Vietnamese audiences in all four corners of the world.  A multilingual, Lam Thuy Van speaks Vietnamese, Cantonese, Urdu and English fluently.
