Dong Nhi (1988- ) is a Vietnamese singer, songwriter and film actress. She is considered to be the most successful V-Pop recording artist. In addition to a successful career in music and films, Dong Nhi has also been selected as the celebrity spokesperson advertising for such products as Nokia, Maybelline New York, Pepsi, Pantene and Nescafe.
Born in Hanoi on October 13, 1988, Dong Nhi grew up in a family as the youngest of two children. At the age of two, her family relocated to Ho Chi Minh City. After high school, Dong Nhi attended college at Saigon Conservatory of Music. In 2007, despite losing out on Vietnam Idol, she was approached by NewGen record label and signed with them as an exclusive recording artist. While under contract with NewGen, Dong Nhi scored her first two hit singles, Chang Baby Milo and Du Quay Tinh Yeu. However, executives at NewGen felt that her look was too bold for the teen V-Pop music market and decided to drop her from the label focusing on promoting singer Khong Tu Quynh shortly after.
Undaunted, Dong Nhi forged ahead and was able to achieve success with her music through online listeners. In 2008, she scored another hit with Khoc, a song she had written herself. This would lead to a solo studio album by the same title. The following year, Dong Nhi continued with her success scoring more hit singles she had written and recorded such as Boi Roi, Bi Mat Hanh Phuc and Loi Thu Toi Ngot Ngao. She then signed with Tinu Productions and has released a trilogy of successful solo albums. Among Dong Nhi's other hit singles include Sau Moi Giac Mo, Bad Boy and Vi Ai Vi Anh (Stop Loving You). In 2009, she starred in her first film, Giai Cuu Than Chet, alongside another V-Pop sensation, Minh Hang, and singers-turned-actresses, Hong Nhung, Phuong Thanh and Siu Black. Her other films include Thu Ba Hoc Tro, Bo Tu Hoan Hao and Cong Chua Teen va Ngu Ho Tuong.
Dong Nhi has received many awards for her accomplishments in the music industry of Vietnam. Among her accolades include 10 Zing Music Awards, 4 Mai Vang Awards, 2 HTV Awards and 3 Lan Song Xanh Awards.
