James Duval (1972- ) is an American actor and musician of Irish, Native-American, Vietnamese and French descent. He first came to prominence starring in the Gregg Araki-directed trilogy of independent films, Totally Fucked Up (1993), The Doom Generation (1995), in which he co-starred with fellow Vietnamese-American actor Dustin Nguyen, and Nowhere (1997).
Born on September 10, 1972 in Detroit, Michigan, he and his family moved to Southern California in 1974. As a child, he was a trained in classical piano and guitar. James Duval began acting at the age of 21. In 2002, James Duval won best actor at the American Indian Film Festival Awards for his role in The Doe Boy (2001). Among his most popular films include Independence Day (1996), Donnie Darko (2001) and May (2002).
In addition to his films, James Duval plays guitar, piano and sings in a band with fellow actors Brian McGuire and Brett Roberts. Their first album was released in 2004 and included guest appearances by The Black Eyed Peas, DJMotiv8, Dante Santiago and Kid from Kid 'n' Play.
