Vu Thu Phuong


Vu Thu Phuong (1985-    ) is a famous Vietnamese actress and fashion model.

Born on October 8, 1985 in the Nam Dinh province of Northern Vietnam, Vu Thu Phuong and her family relocated to Ho Chi Minh City when she was 12 years old.  During her junior year in high school, she was signed to a local modeling agency after an open casting call.  The following year, she was selected as one of the nine models for the nationally televised show about fashion, Thoi Trang va Cuoc Song, in Vietnam.  Vu Thu Phuong's career as a supermodel led her to the fashion show runways, print modeling and television commercials endorsing various major international brand name companies.
In 2007, Vu Thu Phuong embarked on her acting career and made her film debut with a supporting role in Vo Lam Truyen Ky, a comedy starring Dan Truong, Hoai Linh, Chi Bao, Thanh Thao and veteran cai luong performers, Bao Quoc and Ngoc Giau.  In 2008, she was cast in the lead female role in the Vietnamese television series, Chuyen Tinh Cong Ty Quang Cao, costarring Le Quy BinhDiem My and Thai Hoa.  Her most popular role in a television series was as Mai Ly, the lead female character in the long running, Co Nang Bat Dac Di, costarring Duc Hai, Quang Thinh, Dinh Thuy Hang and Huy Khanh with a total of 100 aired episodes.  In 2010, Vu Thu Phuong and actress Ly Nha Ky were both cast as bit players in the film, Shanghai, a major Hollywood production starring John Cusack and Gong Li.  That same year she also starred in her second feature film, Giao Lo Dinh Menh (Inferno), alongside Tran Bao Son and Binh Minh.  In 2011, Vu Thu Phuong starred in two Vietnamese television series, Hoang Tu An May and Khat Vong Thuong Luu, back to back.

After a highly publicized whirlwind romance with singer/actor Tuan Hung, Vu Thu Phuong shocked her fans on November 6, 2011 when she tied the knot in a lavish wedding ceremony held at the Chen Sea Resort in Phu Quoc Island to Tran Thanh Hai, a Cambodian national of Vietnamese origin and businessman.  On March 2, 2013, the couple welcomed the birth of their daughter, Thao My.
