Manh Dinh (1962- ) is an overseas Vietnamese singer who had risen to fame during the 1990s with his interpretation of more traditional Vietnamese pop music.
Born as Đỗ Đình Mạnh in Chợ Lớn, South Vietnam in 1962, he grew up in a rather large family where he was the 6th born out of 7 children. As a child, he had often expressed more interest in music than he did in academics. However, he excelled academically earning high enough grades to be accepted into the prestigious Pétrus Ký High School in Ho Chi Minh City. During high school, he was voted by his fellow classmates as president of the fine arts club. After graduating from high school, he began his professional singing career in Vietnam under the stage name, Đỗ Mạnh. After several years of minor success as a singer in Vietnam, he and his family left for the United States.
In 1993, Manh Dinh began collaborating with Asia Entertainment. His debut video appearance on Asia Entertainment's volume 3, 10 Năm Kỷ Niệm, was in 1993 with a performance of Hồi Chuông Xóm Đạo, a song written by Anh Bằng. Later that year, he appeared on Asia Entertainment's volume 4 of its popular live show music video series with what would become known as Manh Dinh's signature song, Chuyện Giàn Thiên Lý, also written by Anh Bằng. Manh Dinh then became one of the highest in demand overseas Vietnamese singers of the 1990s. He began touring all over the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia performing for overseas Vietnamese audiences. The success from Chuyện Giàn Thiên Lý prompted him to perform numerous other songs written by Anh Bằng on Asia Entertainment's live show series including Cho Kỷ Niệm Mùa Đông, Chuyện Giàn Thiên Lý 2, Cô Bé Môi Hồng, Người Ở Lại Buồn, Cỗ Bài Tam Cúc, Con Đường Hẻm, Gõ Cửa, Căn Nhà Ngoại Ô and Chuyện Hoa Sim.
Manh Dinh became a freelance performer in 1997 breaking away from his exclusive contract to Asia Entertainment. He appeared on other various music video live shows produced by Mây Productions, Lang Van and Thuy Nga Paris. Right around this time, he also developed his own music label, Manh Dinh Productions. He made his debut appearance on the Paris By Night stage on volume 42 in 1997 with a performance of Chút Kỷ Niệm Buồn written Tô Thanh Sơn. Among his most popular appearances on Paris By Night include performances of songs such as Nửa Kiếp Cô Đơn written by Hàn Sinh, Thói Đời written by Trúc Phương and Kiếp Tha Hương written by Lam Phương. His most popular duets have been with singer Nhu Quynh of songs such as Hai Mùa Noel written by Nguyễn Vũ, Ra Giêng Anh Cưới Em written by Lư Nhất Vũ and Thiên Kiều, Tình Yêu Vỗ Cánh, Hẹn Hò Đêm Trăng written by Nhật Ngân and Thầm Kín written by Phượng Linh. Among other singers he has recorded duets with include Son Tuyen, Phi Nhung, Ai Van, Diep Thanh Thanh, Thai Doanh Doanh, Y Phung, My Huyen, Phuong Diem Hanh and Manh Quynh. His last music video appearance to date was in 2012 on Asia Entertainment's live show series with a medley performance of songs written by Anh Bằng together with singer Bang Tam.
