Sơn Tuyền (1960- ) is a famous overseas Vietnamese singer.
Born in Đà Lạt, the beautiful capital city of Lâm Đồng Province located in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, Son Tuyen is the eighth eldest in a family of 15 children. At the age of 13, she relocated to Saigon with her family. Despite having two famous older sisters, singers Thanh Tuyền and Ngọc Tuyền, she had no intentions of becoming a singer, herself, while growing up in Vietnam. It wasn't until a few years after resettling in the United States in 1980 that Son Tuyen finally embarked on her professional singing career.
In 1984 Son Tuyen began working as a singer for Club Hong Kong, a nightclub which catered to international tourists from Japan, the Philippines, as well as Vietnamese-American locals in Houston, Texas. For the next three years, her popularity within the Vietnamese community of Texas would grow steadily. Finally, in 1987 Son Tuyen relocated to Orange County, California, the entertainment capital for Vietnamese-Americans, where she released her first solo studio album, Anh, distributed by Đời Magazine. Her career then instantly took off making her one of the most popular overseas Vietnamese singers. Eventually, Son Tuyen would form her own production company, Son Tuyen Productions, which to date has released over 30 compact discs. She has also recorded several well-received studio albums with singer Tuấn Vũ. Among her most popular recorded songs include Nỗi Buồn Hoa Phượng written by Thanh Sơn, Thành Phố Buồn written by Lam Phương, Giọt Sầu Trinh Nữ written by Thu Hoài and Đan Linh, Mưa Nửa Đêm written by Trúc Phương, Cho Người Tình Lỡ written by Hoàng Nguyên, Người Yêu Cô Đơn written by Đài Phương Trang, Ngày Vui Qua Mau written by Nhật Ngân, Dấu Chân Kỷ Niệm written by Thúc Đăng, Duyên Quê written by Hoàng Thi Thơ and Hoa Sứ Nhà Nàng written by Hoàng Phương. Son Tuyen has performed at live shows for Vietnamese audiences all over the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. On video, she has made appearances on the popular live show series produced by Asia Entertainment and Paris By Night produced by Thuy Nga.
In recent years, Son Tuyen has experienced a resurgence in popularity with audiences in her native homeland. During the winter of 2015, she along with legendary singer Chế Linh and popular overseas Vietnamese emcee Nguyễn Cao Kỳ Duyên embarked on a successful concert tour of Vietnam performing in two sold out shows in Hanoi and Da Nang. Prior to returning to the United States on that trip, Son Tuyen finished off the tour with another sold-out one night engagement at Tiếng Xưa cabaret in Ho Chi Minh City on January 11, 2015 followed by a live show with Chế Linh in Dak Lak Province on January 17, 2015. She was invited back to Vietnam on May of that same year to perform alongside Ngọc Sơn, Mai Quốc Huy and Kasim Hoàng Vũ in the wildly successful Sol Vàng-produced live show, Sơn Tuyền - Dấu Chân Kỷ Niệm, held at the Hoa Binh Theater in Ho Chi Minh City. Aside from her live performances in Vietnam, Son Tuyen continues to tour for overseas Vietnamese audiences worldwide.
Son Tuyen resides in Anaheim, California with her life partner, Quang. Although the two have been in a committed relationship for almost 40 years, they have yet to get married in a formal wedding,
