Yohan Cabaye

Yohan Cabaye (1986-     ) is an internationally renowned French footballer.  His father, Didier Cabaye, had also been a professional footballer in France and is of French-Vietnamese mixed heritage.  Born in Tourcoing, France, Cabaye began his career as a footballer at the age of 6 when he joined his hometown club, Tourcoing FC.  After 6 years playing competitively as a youth for Tourcoing FC, Cabaye turned professional and first signed a three-year contract with Lille Club in 2004 which was extended until 2011.  After leaving the Lille Club, he played for New Castle United for 3 years.  Since 2013, Yohan Cabaye has been playing for the Paris Saint-Germain club as midfielder.  In his professional career, he has earned 30 caps and has represented France in UEFA Euro 2012 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Yohan Cabaye is currently married to his wife, Fiona.  Together, the couple have two daughters.  Cabaye has publicly stated that he would like to one day visit the country of Vietnam and possibly contribute to football there.

Ut Bach Lan


Út Bạch Lan 
(1935-2016) was born in Long An, South Vietnam.  Ut Bach Lan was among the most popular performers of  Southern Vietnamese folk opera known as cai luong.  She was once married to fellow performer, Thành Được, from 1961 until 1964.  Among her most popular in which she starred in included Nua Doi Huong Phan, Chua Tat Lua Long, Ben Doi Trang Cu, Thuyen Ra Cua Bien, Ao Trang Nang Mong Tinh, Nua Ban Tinh Ca and Nguoi Dep Thanh Bat Da.  In addition to the Vietnamese folk opera stage, Út Bạch Lan had acted in several well-received feature films prior to 1975 including Bóng Người Đi (1964) starring Thẩm Thúy Hằng and Báo Kiếm Rửa Hận Thù (1972) starring Ngọc Đan Thanh.

Due to her ex-husband's philandering Ut Bach Lan experienced financial woes having to support several of Thanh Duoc's children that had been born out of wedlock.  In 2014, Ut Bach Lan costarred with Cat Tuong and Hieu Hien in the television mini-series, Tro Ve 3, directed by Viet Trinh.  Toward the end of her life, she retired from the stage and took up residence at a temple in Ho Chi Minh City where she devoted most of her days helping the needy.

Ut Bach Lan passed away on November 4, 2016 after months of illness brought on by failing health and old age.  She was 81 years old.

Cam Van

Cam Van (1959-     ) is a popular Vietnamese singer most famous for her interpretations of songs written by Trinh Cong Son.  She began her career from early on while being discovered by the famous musician, Nguyen Van Ty.  Cam Van has performed all around the world and has the ability to sing in other languages such as English and Spanish.  One of Cam Van's most famous songs at her live shows is the Spanish language classic, Malegueña Salerosa.  


Cam Van has been long married to drummer and vocalist Khac Trieu.  In addition to being a singer, Cam Van is also an accomplished lyricist.  Among her most famous songs she had written are Con Yeu and Khi Co Don Em Goi Ten Anh.  Cam Van makes her home in Ho Chi Minh City where she and her husband own and run a nightclub called Van's Unforgettable.  The couple have two daughters.

Dustin Nguyen



Dustin Nguyen (1962-     ) is an American actor of Vietnamese origin.  Born in Saigon to Vietnamese actors, the late Xuan Phat and My Le, Dustin Nguyen along with his family fled Vietnam for the United States in 1975 after the Fall of Saigon.  He graduated from Garden Grove High School and attended Orange Coast College where he majored in mass communications.  Dustin Nguyen was casted in 21 Jump Street alongside Johnny Depp and Holly Robinson in 1987.  During his tenure on the popular Fox Network television show, Nguyen had become an American teen heartthrob.


After 21 Jump Street, Dustin Nguyen has appeared in numerous films in the English language, as well as in Vietnamese such as Heaven and Earth (1993), Little Fish (2005), The Rebel (2007), Saigon Eclipse (2007), The Floating Lives (2010) costarring Do Thi Hai Yen and Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, Between Two Worlds (2011) costarring Ngoc Diep and Tam Tit.  In 2013, Dustin Nguyen starred, wrote, produced and directed Lua Phat (Once Upon a Time in Vietnam), a Vietnamese-language action fantasy film that had also co-starred actress Ngo Thanh Van and his father, Xuan Phat.  In 2015, he again starred, produced and directed the feature film, Trung So (Jackpot), costarring Chi Tai and Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc.

Dustin Nguyen was formerly married actress Angela Rockwood, a quadriplegic, for ten years from 2001 until 2011.  He is currently married to Vietnamese model and actress Bebe Pham.  The two are parents of two daughters.  Dustin Nguyen is related to actors Nguyen Chanh Tin and Johnny Tri Nguyen and comedian Van Son of Van Son Entertainment.

Y Lan

Y Lan (1957-     ) is a famous overseas Vietnamese singer.  Born in Saigon to legendary Vietnamese singer, Thai Thanh, and legendary film actor, Le Quynh, Y Lan is the eldest of five children. She along with younger sister, Quynh Huong, would eventually follow their mother's footsteps in career paths.  However, while growing up, Y Lan was hesitant to pursue a career in singing and instead focused primarily on her studies and becoming a businesswoman.  While in Vietnam, Y Lan had owned a cafe that hosted other artists who remained in Vietnam after 1975.  In 1980, Y Lan while pregnant with her second child fled from Vietnam along with her then husband and one year old daughter from Vietnam by boat.  After a year spent living at a refugee camp, Y Lan and her family resettled in the United States, first in Houston, Texas and then Southern California.  After having five kids, Y Lan finally began singing professionally here in the United States in 1989 when she was approached by Thai Xuan, the owner of Diem Xua Productions.  Almost instantaneously, Y Lan became a Vietnamese singing phenomenon with such recordings of songs like Quynh Huong, Ao Dai Viet Nam and Vet Sau.  Audiences immediately took notice of her beauty, her elegance that coincided with her Northern Vietnamese etiquette and her unique singing voice which was clearly distinct from yet reminiscent of her legendary mother.  This would lead Y Lan to numerous appearances on Thuy Nga Paris and Asia Productions along with live performances for Vietnamese audiences worldwide.


During the early 1990s, Y Lan had performed exclusively for Ritz Nightclub in Anaheim.  Her stage presence and style of dress had helped make her one of the highest paid performers at live shows among Vietnamese singers.

A breast cancer survivor, Y Lan is a mother to six children.  Five out of her six children had come from her first marriage which had lasted 16 years.  Y Lan's youngest child was fathered by Tuan Cuong, actor / singer and son of legendary film actress, Kieu Chinh.  Now happily remarried to an engineer named Tuan, Y Lan has also become a grandmother.  In a surprising twist of fate, in 2007 Y Lan's eldest daughter, singer Mai Linh, and and the son of her current husband tied the knot.  The young couple also added a daughter to their family unit that same year, making both Y Lan and her current husband, Tuan, proud grandparents.  In her professional life, Y Lan still continues to perform for Vietnamese audiences all over the world and is the owner of her own music production company, Y Lan Productions.

Thanh Duoc

Thanh Duoc (1938-     ) was a famous performer of "cai luong", Southern Vietnamese opera, in Saigon and a film actor.  Born in Soc Trang, Thanh Duoc began his professional career on stage at the age of 16.  Thanh Duoc has acted alongside some of the top performers of the "cai luong" stage such as Phung Ha, Nam Chau, Ut Tra On, Ut Bach Lan and Bach Tuyet.  From 1961 until 1964, Thanh Duoc was married to Ut Bach Lan and together they were known as the golden couple of the "cai luong" stage.  Among his leading ladies was the late legendary actress, Thanh Nga.  Thanh Duoc has since confessed that Thanh Nga was the true love of his life.

Blessed with good looks, Thanh Duoc was casted as the lead actor in Chiec Bong Ben Duong (1973), a film in which he starred alongside Kieu Chinh and Kim Cuong.  His performance in the film surprised audiences all over South Vietnam for his diversity as an actor.

In 1984, Thanh Duoc and Bach Tuyet toured West Germany to perform for the overseas Vietnamese audience there.  While on tour in West Germany, Thanh Duoc successfully applied for political asylum and remained there until he resettled in San Jose, California in 1995.  Thanh Duoc has since become a restaurateur and owns Thanh Duoc Restaurant in Milpitas, Northern California.

Bao Yen

Bao Yen (1958-     ) is a famous Vietnamese singer originally from Hue, Central Vietnam.  Born in a family of musical talents, Bao Yen had been prepped for a singing career ever since she was a young child.  In addition to having a famous father, legendary performer Thuy Trieu, Bao Yen also has two younger siblings with established careers in music; younger sister, Nha Phuong, who is an accomplished singer and younger brother, Kim Tuan, a musician.

In 1981, Bao Yen was formally invited to collaborate with Dai Truyen Hinh Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh (Ho Chi Minh City Television) as a writer and performer for various music programs produced by the station.  Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Bao Yen was one of the most popular female vocalists in Vietnam.  Among her trademarks include her exceptional interpretations of Central Vietnamese folk music.  Bao Yen also has the ability to sing in English.  Her covers of songs of American rock music have been a tremendous crowd pleaser at her live performances, especially her live interpretation of an Eagles classic, Hotel California.  

Bao Yen is married to musician and composer, Quoc Dung.  She has performed for live audiences throughout Vietnam, as well as for overseas Vietnamese audiences in Europe, North America and Australia.














Lance Krall

Lance Krall (1970-     ) is an American comedian and actor most famous for his portrayal of "Kip", a flamboyant Cuban homosexual, on Spike TV's The Joe Schmo Show, during the first season in 2003.  A film and theater major from Georgia State University, after graduating Krall co-founded The Whole World Theater in Atlanta where he performed and wrote scripts for many plays from 1993-2000.  Prior to The Joe Schmo Show, Krall landed roles in feature films such as Made Up (2002), Juwanna Mann (2002) and Party Animals (2003), in which he starred in as well as directed.

His massive popularity from The Joe Schmo Show led to Spike TV's decision to pick up eight episodes for the first season of The Lance Krall Show in 2005.  Krall was creator, writer, director, executive producer and editor of his self-titled comedy show.  After The Lance Krall Show came Free Radio which aired for two seasons in 2008-2009 originally on VH1, then later also aired on Comedy Central and Super Channel of Canada.  Similar to his previous show, Krall was creator, writer, executive producer and editor of Free Radio.  At present he is a writer on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a popular sitcom which airs on the FXX Channel.

Born into a military family, his father having been a US Naval aviator, for the first 13 years of his life, Lance was forced to relocate from place to place all around the country as well as abroad.  Finally, his father retired from the military and the family resettled in Georgia in 1983.  Krall's mother, Yung Krall, is originally from Vietnam and had been a spy for the CIA.  Since 2008, he has been married to his wife, Brittany, and together they have two children, Lyla and Ronin.
