He was born on Christmas Day, 1979 in Ho Chi Minh City. At the age of 16 while still attending Bùi Thị Xuân High School, he won a national modeling search contest. For the next 8 years which included 4 years of college spent at Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, Hứa Vĩ Văn pursued a successful career as a male model in Vietnam appearing in numerous magazine covers and advertisements for brand name products. In 2003, he along with Hồ Ngọc Hà were chosen for Vietnam's Model of the Year Award.
Hứa Vĩ Văn began his acting career in 2002 after landing the lead role in the television movie, Cây Huê Xà. The ratings success from his debut television movie then led to many other starring roles in television movies and mini-series such as Lời Thề Đất Mũ (2003), Người Đẹp Yasan (2004), Nợ Đời (2004) with Việt Trinh, Ảo Ảnh (2005), Chuyện Tình Yêu (2006), Công Ty Thời Trang (2007) with Trương Ngọc Ánh and Bình Minh, Ghen (2007) with Thùy Lâm, Lý Nhã Kỳ, Mạnh Hùng and Ngân Khánh and Tình Yêu Pha Lê (2007) with Ngọc Lan. In 2006, Hứa Vĩ Văn starred in his first feature film, Chuyện Tình Sài Gòn (Saigon Love Story) with Ngô Thanh Vân, Kim Xuân and Nguyễn Chánh Tín. In 2010, he costarred in the Victor Vũ-directed film, Giao Lộ Định Mệnh (Inferno) with Trần Bảo Sơn, Vũ Thu Phương, Đại Nghĩa and Diễm My. For two consecutive years, Hứa Vĩ Văn won the Cánh Diều Vàng (Golden Kite Award), Vietnam's equivalent to an Oscar, for Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film for his roles in Đam Mê (Passion) (2012) and Thần Tượng (2013). Among his other acting credits in film and television include Lời Thú Nhận của Eva (2010), Gieo Gió (2011) starring Nhật Kim Anh, Anh Chàng Vượt Thời Gian (2011), Âm Mưu Giày Gót Nhọn (How to Fight in Six Inch Heels) (2013) starring Kathy Uyên and Don Nguyễn, Thái Sư Trần Thủ Độ (2013), Chàng Trai Năm Ấy (2014) starring Sơn Tùng M-TP, Hari Won, Phạm Quỳnh Anh and Ngô Kiến Huy, Em Là Bà Nội của Anh (2015) starring Miu Lê, Mặt Nạ Thiên Thần (2015), Trại Cá Sấu (2015) starring Công Ninh and Lý Hùng, Nước Mắt Chảy Ngược (2016), Dã Tâm Thiên Thần (2017) starring Thân Thúy Hà and Chạy Đi Rồi Tính (2017) starring Việt Hương.

He released three studio albums for the GMC music label, Hứa Vĩ Văn Vol.1 (2004), Quán Cafe Mùa Hè Vol.2 (2005) and Hứa Vĩ Văn Vol.3 (2006). Hứa Vĩ Văn has recorded duets with singers Hiền Thục and Khánh Linh. Among his most popular recorded songs include Câu Chuyện Tình Tôi (written by Kim Tuấn), Cầu Vồng (written by Trịnh Tú Trung), Yêu Em (written by Trung Kiên), Hãy Yêu Như Chưa Yêu Lần Nào (written by Lê Hựu Hà) and Quán Cafe Mùa Hè (written by Huy Tuấn).
