Nhật Hạ

Nhật Hạ (....-    ) is a beautiful overseas Vietnamese singer, model, actress and songwriter.

Born on September 25th in South Vietnam, Nhật Hạ didn't pursue her career in entertainment until after she had left her native homeland and resettled in the United States during the early 1980s.  Shortly after her arrival in the United States, Nhật Hạ signed with a major Asian-American modeling agency in Los Angeles, California.  Within a short period of time, she became one of the most recognizable faces in overseas Vietnamese communities worldwide.  During the 1980s, Nhật Hạ along with model Thanh Hằng were the among the most celebrated beauties in the overseas Vietnamese entertainment industry gracing the covers of numerous fashion magazines, audio cassettes and calendars.  Despite the immediate success she had found as a fashion model, Nhật Hạ knew that her true calling would be in music.  She began collaborating with Asia Entertainment as a recording artist in the mid-1980s.  One of her earliest released audio recordings was of a song called Tình Nồng Cháy featured on the album produced by Asia Entertainment, Dạ Vũ Xanh (1986), which comprised of various artists such as Kiều Nga, Julie Quang, Duy Quang, Thanh Mai, Ngọc Lan, Thái Hiền, Elvis Phương, Như Mai, Billy Shane, Minh Xuân and Minh Phuc.  In the spring of 1987, Nhật Hạ was formally introduced to the Vietnamese-American audience of Southern California with a live performance concert show held at the Disneyland Hotel Grand Ballroom promoted by the popular overseas Vietnamese band, Mây Bốn Phương.  That same year, she released her debut studio album, Tình Như Thoáng Mây Bay.  As her popularity grew, Nhật Hạ maintained a busy schedule of headlining weekly at popular Vietnamese nightclubs in Orange County, Southern California such as Saigon Cabaret and Caravelle throughout the late 1980s and well into the 1990s along with frequent one-night bookings to perform at live shows for Vietnamese audiences in various regions throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.


In 1989, Nhật Hạ made her debut performance on volume 7 of the popular live show music video series, Paris By Night, produced by Thúy Nga with her rendition of the song, Mơ Ước Người Yêu Bên Tôi.  Nhật Hạ was featured on Asia Entertainment's very first music videotape production,  Tình Yêu Tuổi Trẻ (Young Love) (1990).  In the music video for a song she had previously recorded for Asia Entertainment, Mây Lang Thang (Vietnamese lyrics written by Nam Lộc), Nhật Hạ was filmed singing and dancing around in a studio with several wardrobe changes.    Other featured performers on Asia Entertainment's debut music videotape production included Kiều Nga, Như Mai, Thái Thảo, Trịnh Nam Sơn and Thúy Vi.  In 1991 with the release of Asia Entertainment's second videotape production, Tiếng Hát Nhật Hạ - Tình Em Thiết Tha, she became the first singer to have ever been featured in a solo videotape produced by the label.

Aside from her successful careers as a model and singer, Nhật Hạ had also enjoyed a brief career as an actress.  In 1990, she was cast in the overseas Vietnamese-produced film, Bên Kia Màn Sương, starring Lê Tuấn and Thanh Lan.

In the early 1990s Nhật Hạ and her former husband, cinematographer Howard Huệ, formed Dạ Khúc Productions.  Despite the wave of big budget live show productions equipped with lavish stage settings filmed at major concert venues in Canada and the United States having taken full effect with such labels like Thúy Nga and Asia Entertainment during that decade, music videos from Dạ Khúc Productions were filmed in a studio or at locations in the style of MTV.  Howard Huệ and Nhật Hạ focused primarily with maintaining high qualities of sound, cinematography and capturing the beauty of each singer on video.  Among the most beautiful, young overseas Vietnamese singers of the day that had been featured on music videos for Dạ Khúc Productions other than Nhật Hạ included Thúy Vi, Kim Ngân, Mai Vy, Candice Phi Phi, Ngọc Huệ, Trizzie Phương Trinh, Ngọc Anh, Lynda Trang Đài, Thanh Hà, Thái Tài and Danny Tuấn.  Several singers from a previous generation had also been filmed in music videos for Dạ Khúc Productions such as Julie Quang, Thanh Mai and Băng Châu.  During this period, Nhật Hạ had also ventured outside the entertainment industry as a businesswoman and ran two successful businesses, Nhật Hạ Studio in Santa Ana, California, a make-up and photography studio, and Café Artiste, a French-Vietnamese bistro in Garden Grove, California.  The ending of her marriage to Howard Huệ in the latter part of the 1990s decade coincided with the closing of Dạ Khúc Productions.

Since 2000, Nhật Hạ has concentrated on singing Vietnamese classical standards, a genre known known as "Nhạc Thính Phòng".  Happily remarried to composer Huỳnh Thái Bình, her live performances have become more selective as she partakes mainly in such concerts aimed specifically toward fans of "Nhạc Thính Phòng" and equipped with a full orchestra.  After a lengthy absence, with the encouragement from her husband in 2011 Nhật Hạ released her first studio album in almost a decade entitled as Thả Tình under her own label, Nhật Hạ Productions, and distributed by Phương Nam Films.  The album is a collection of songs with original lyrics written by Nhật Hạ and composed by Trịnh Công Sơn, Phạm Duy, Lê Uyên Phương, Đức Huy and her husband, Huỳnh Thái Bình.  Special guest vocalists also featured on the album included Tuấn Ngọc, Khánh Hà, Tùng Dương and Mỹ Hạnh.

In recent years, Nhật Hạ has performed in many concerts for live audiences in various cities throughout Vietnam.  She and her husband divide their time between homes in Fountain Valley, California and Ho Chi Minh City.  Nhật Hạ is a mother of a grown son.

Singer Hà Anh Tuấn is also president of Viet Vision Entertainment.  When he's not performing on stage or sitting behind a desk at his day job, his time is mostly spent at one of these two homes.  The first is a home located in Ho Chi Minh City directly facing Vietnam's national landmark known as the Reunification Palace.  And his other home is a recently purchased penthouse located inside the Sunrise City Tower of Hanoi, Vietnam.

Dang Khoi

Đăng Khôi (1983-    ) is a Vietnamese pop singer/actor who had first gained prominence as a member of the boy groups, New Stars and Con Trai, while still a teenager.

Nguyễn Đăng Khôi was born on November 28, 1983 in Hanoi.  During his sophomore year at Việt Đức High School in Hanoi, he became a member of the pop singing group known as New Stars and performed at professional shows all around the country.   Upon graduating from high school, Đăng Khôi was accepted into the prestigious Hanoi Music Conservatory in 2001.  After 3 years as a member of New Stars, in 2002 he joined another boy group called Con Trai and signed with HT Productions.  That same year, HT Productions released two studio albums for Con Trai along with another album comprised of various artists including Đan Trường, Cẩm Ly, Mỹ Lệ and Quang Dũng.  The following year, HT Productions released Đăng Khôi's debut solo studio album, Thật Lòng Yêu Em.  In 2004, his second studio solo album, Khôi, was released by Vafaco.  Đăng Khôi formed his own music label, Đăng Khôi Productions, in 2005 and released his third solo studio album, Từ Bắc… Tới Nam, on October of that same year.  Among his other well-received solo studio albums include Thiên Đường Vắng Em (2006), Ngày Nhớ Đêm Mong (2008), Tình Đầu Không Nguôi (2008) and Hoa Hồng Tuyết (2009).  In 2007, he along with singer Thủy Tiên were named by Làn Sóng Xanh Music Awards as Most Promising Newcomers.  On August of 2009, Đăng Khôi was the only Vietnamese singer invited to perform at the annual Korea Music Festival held in Seoul, South Korea.  On December 26, 2009, Đăng Khôi produced his first televised live concert show in Ho Chi Minh City, Đăng Khôi Live.

Mayko Nguyen

Mayko Nguyễn (1980-    ) is a Canadian actress of film and television.

Born to Vietnamese parents on April 19, 1980 in Vancouver, British Columbia, she studied acting at the University of British Columbia.  In 2004, Mayko Nguyen was cast in a supporting role on her first feature film, Going the Distance, a teen comedy starring Christopher Jacot and Jason Priestly.  That same year she was cast as one of the original cast members in the role of Mayko Tran on the television science fiction series, ReGenesis, which ran for four seasons.  The success of ReGenesis turned her into a household name in Canada.  In 2007, she was nominated for a Gemini Award, Canada's equivalent to an Emmy, for Best Supporting Actress in a Dramatic Series.  Mayko Nguyen has also been a cast member or had recurring roles in various other Canadian television series such as 11 Cameras (2006), Rent-a-Goalie (2006), The Listener (2009), which starred fellow Vietnamese-Canadian actress Mylène Dinh-Robic, Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures (2010), Rookie Blue (2011), Against the Wall (2011) and Cracked (2013).  Mayko Nguyen currently is seen weekly on the popular Canadian television science fiction series, Killjoys, in the role of Delle Seyah Kendry, a role she had originated since 2015.  In 2016, she had a recurring role as Ashley Sutherland on 5 episodes of the popular Canadian anthology horror television series, Slasher.

Mayko Nguyen has starred in 2 American television movies, Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy (2006) for Lifetime Network and Princess (2008) for ABC Family Network.  She has also had supporting roles in several other feature films including Lie With Me (2005), This Movie Is Broken (2010) and Below Her Mouth (2016).

Quoc Khanh

Quốc Khanh (1984-    ) is an overseas Vietnamese singer, musician and songwriter.

Võ Quốc Khanh came to the United States with his family from Vietnam while he was just 8 years old back in 1992.  His family decided to resettle in Florida, which was where he was brought up.  In 2007 during his junior year as a business major at Florida State University, Quốc Khanh entered and won first prize in the Giọng Ca Vàng talent search competition sponsored by Asia Entertainment with his performance of a song he had written and composed, Mối Tình Thơ.  That same year, he made his first appearance on the popular live show video series produced by Asia Entertainment on volume 54 in a duet medley of songs written by Trúc Hồ with singer Thiên Kim.  His next appearance on volume 55 of Asia Entertainment's live show video series would be one of his most memorable in a duet performance with the posthumous Sĩ Phú of the song, Niệm Khúc Cuối (written by Ngô Thụy Miên), made possible by modern technology.  Among his most popular solo performances on Asia Entertainment's live show video series include Áo Anh Sứt Chỉ Đường Tà (written by Phạm Duy), Trên Bốn Vùng Chiến Thuật (written by Trúc Phương), Vầng Trăng Tình Yêu (written by Trúc Hồ), Một Chuyến Bay Đêm (written by Song Ngọc and Hoài Linh) and Chuyện Tình Mình, a song he had written and composed, himself.  Among the various performers Quốc Khanh has teamed up with in duets and as part of ensembles on Asia Entertainment's live show video series include Thế Sơn, Nguyên Khang, Mai Thanh Sơn, Diễm Liên, Y Phương, Hồ Hoàng Yến, Lâm Thuý Vân, Lâm Nhật Tiến, Đoàn Phi, Nguyễn Hồng Nhung, Ánh Minh, Philip Huy, Đan Nguyên, Spencer, Như Quỳnh, Don Hồ, Thanh Trúc, Hà Thanh Xuân, Lê Quốc Tuấn and Ngọc Anh Vi.  In addition to his singing, Quốc Khanh has also contributed his talents as a music arranger for Asia Entertainment.  He has performed at live shows for Vietnamese audiences all over the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.  As of the end of 2016, Quốc Khanh is no longer contracted with Asia Entertainment.  His last appearance on Asia Entertainment's live show video series was on volume 78, filmed at the Segerstrom Center of the Arts in Costa Mesa, California on August 20, 2016.

Ngọc Đan Thanh (1952-    ) is a popular Vietnamese actress and singer.

She was born in Saigon, South Vietnam in 1952.  Her given name at birth was Lê Thị Huệ.  At the age of 14, Ngọc Đan Thanh made her television acting debut playing the role of a grieving granddaughter of the lead character, a dying woman portrayed by legendary actress Bạch Huệ, in a televised dramatic play.  At the age of 18, she enrolled at the prestigious Quốc Gia Âm Nhạc (University of Performing Arts, Saigon) and became classmates with fellow future established performing artists, Kiều Phượng Loan and Tú Trinh.  During her sophomore year, she studied Southern Vietnamese folk opera known as "cải lương".  Ngọc Đan Thanh was then recruited by various Southern Vietnamese folk opera theater troupes such as Phương Nam, Thành Công, Phụng Hảo, Mây Tần of Saigon Radio Broadcasting Network and Đài Phát Thanh Quân Đội (South Vietnam's Military Radio Broadcasting Network) and Thanh Lịch of Đài Truyền Hình Việt Nam (South Vietnam's National Television Network).  As a dramatic theater actress, she worked with various theater troupes headed by actresses Túy Hồng, Bích Thuận, Thẩm Thúy Hằng and Kim Cương, for which she was cast in such memorable parts in the televised plays, Dưới Hai Màu Áo and Lá Sầu Riêng, along with Kim Cương, Vân Hùng, Bảy Nam, Túy Hoa and Ngọc Đức.  Blessed with natural good looks, Ngọc Đan Thanh eased her way into a career in films.  In 1972, Ngọc Đan Thanh starred alongside Út Bạch Lan, Hoàng Long and Văn Ngà in the martial arts feature film, Báo Kiếm Rửa Hận Thù.  She starred in two more feature films prior to the Fall of Saigon:  Xóm Tôi (1973) directed by Lê Dân and Chàng Ngốc Gặp Hên (1974) directed by Lưu Bạch Đàn.

In the years following the Fall of Saigon, Ngọc Đan Thanh continued on with her career as a theater actress.  Her biggest success was her portrayal of Thanh Vân in the play, Tình Yêu và Lời Đáp, which ran for many months at the legendary Trần Hữu Trang Playhouse Theater and costarred Ngọc Giàu, Phương Quang and Minh Châu.  The play was so well received that a live taping was aired on Vietnamese national television during the 1980s.

In 1990, Ngọc Đan Thanh fled from communist Vietnam by boat in search of freedom.  After several months spent at Pulau Bidong refugee camp in Malaysia, she resettled in Southern California.  Immediately after her arrival, Ngọc Đan Thanh was given a warm welcome by the overseas Vietnamese entertainment industry with a sold-out night held in her honor at Diamond Nightclub in Fullerton, California.  She then began collaborating with Người Đẹp Bình Dương, a prominent overseas Vietnamese music production label, as a recording artist.  Her most successful song recorded with the Người Đẹp Bình Dương label was Bức Tâm Thư (written by Lam Phương), a duet with singer Tuấn Vũ.  Ngọc Đan Thanh had also found work doing voice overs of films and dramas produced in Hong Kong and Taiwan during the 1990s alongside veteran voice over actors Ánh Hằng and Việt Thảo.

In 2004, she appeared on volume 74 of Thúy Nga's Paris By Night live show video series as an actress in a comedy skit entitled as Nỗi Lòng Người Mẹ along with Mỹ Huyền, Mạnh Quỳnh and Chí Tài.  The following year, Ngọc Đan Thanh would return to the Paris By Night stage as a singer of Southern Vietnamese folk opera, also known as "vọng cổ", in a duet with Hương Thủy.  She would be invited back by the executives at Thúy Nga to appear on two more volumes of the Paris By Night series in 2007:  as a singer of Vietnamese pop music performing with Phương Hồng Quế a medley of songs written by Nhật Trường on volume 85 filmed in Toronto, Canada and again as an actress in another comedy skit, Chồng Chúa Vợ Tôi, along with Kiều Oanh, Kiều Linh and Lê Tín on volume 90 filmed at the Terrace Theater in Long Beach, California.  From 2010 until 2016, Ngọc Đan Thanh co-hosted a total of 12 volumes of the popular live show video series produced by Asia Entertainment alongside Nam Lộc and Thùy Dương from volume 67 to volume 78.  In addition, she also performed several medleys in duets and as part of ensembles teamed up with others including her old singing partners, Phương Hồng Quế and Tuấn Vũ, as well as Trung Chỉnh, Huy Sinh and Thiên Trang.  Her accomplishments as an actress in films, as a performer of Southern Vietnamese folk opera, as a singer of Vietnamese pop music and as an emcee of variety live shows clearly are the reasons why Ngọc Đan Thanh has been considered one of the most diverse talents among Vietnamese entertainers worldwide.

Johnny Dung

Johnny Dũng (1967-    ) is an overseas Vietnamese singer who sings in Vietnamese, English and French.

Born on March 27, 1967 in Đà Lạt, Vietnam, Johnny Dũng resettled in Virginia during the early 1980s.  After graduating from a 4-year university with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, he decided to relocate to Southern California in the early 1990s to pursue his dream of a career in music.  He first collaborated with the label, Trường Thanh, then billed as Hoàng Thanh, in his debut appearance on video of a song called Đêm Cuồng Điên in 1993.  Shortly thereafter, he changed his professional stage name to Johnny Dũng when he began recording for Ý Productions, which was headed by the husband-and-wife team of singers, Ý Nhi and Kenny Thái.  In 1994, Johnny Dũng teamed up with singer Y Phương to produce a duet album, Chờ Nhau Trong Mưa.  That same year, he would also make an appearance on volume 3 of Vân Sơn Entertainment's Nụ Cười và Âm Nhạc video series in a duet with singer Ngọc Anh of the song, Thoáng Đam Mê.  Toward the end of 1995 during one night while performing at the Diamond Nightclub in Fullerton, California, he was spotted by Trúc Hồ and Thy Vân, the owners of Asia Entertainment.  During his entire 2-year stint with Asia Entertainment during the 1990s, Johnny Dũng would only appear as part of a trio alongside Gia Huy and Nhật Quân on each consecutive volume of the label's live show music video series and was denied the opportunity to appear as a solo performer.  Disillusioned with Asia Entertainment, he left the label in 1997 and signed with Tình Productions.  Right around this time, Johnny Dũng teamed up with a female singer newly arrived from Vietnam by the name of Minh Tuyết to form a duo.  For the next several years, Johnny Dũng and Minh Tuyết would become one of the most successful singing duos in the overseas Vietnamese music industry.  For the remainder of the 1990s and well into the 2000s, he continuously dished out studio albums released by Tình Productions, followed by another label, Nhạc Trẻ.  In 2002, as Minh Tuyết would go onto signing an exclusive contract with Thúy Nga, Johnny Dũng would be invited back to Asia Entertainment.  This time around, he was able to appear on Asia Entertainment's live show video series both as a solo act, as well as part of ensembles with other artists.  Among his most memorable solo performances on video for Asia Entertainment include such songs like Quê Mẹ (written by Thu Hồ), Đồn Vắng Chiều Xuân (written by Nhật Trường) and Mẹ Tôi (written by Nhị Hà).  Johnny Dũng had also performed on for Asia Entertainment's live show video series as part of ensembles alongside various artists such as Hồ Ngọc Như, Thiên Kim, Mạnh Đình, Hà Phương and Diệp Thanh Thanh.  In 2004, he made his second departure from Asia Entertainment to form his own label, Johnny Dũng Music.

At the height of his singing career and following the passing of his beloved mother during the mid 2000s, Johnny Dũng made the decision to return to college to study biology.  After completion of his studies earning a second degree as a biology major, Johnny Dũng started his own business.  He is the founder, CEO and president of Lotus by Johnny Dũng, a successful cosmeceutial manufacturing and distribution company of Korean and Japanese herbal supplementary products.  Johnny Dũng previously had also worked as a full-time high school math teacher, in which he had maintained simultaneously throughout the years when his singing career was in full swing.  He is also known as Brian Hoàng.
